Super Mario World’s Yoshis make an appearance too, with you able to ride green, red or yellow versions (complete with their unique skills). The power-ups on offer in Super Mario Bros Lost Land cover the entirety of the Mario series, from the traditional Fire Flower to the Bee costume, the Boomerang Suit or an adorable little Penguin Suit. It’s extremely tough, but at any point you can travel back to Toad Town to stock up on lives, power-ups and Yoshis. The current build of Super Mario Bros Lost Land features five playable Super Mario Bros 3-esque overworld maps to play through, complete with SMB3 style bonus games and mushroom houses. Super Mario Bros Lost Land retains that 8-bit art style but adds gameplay features, enemies and power-ups from the entire Mario franchise to create a glorious Mario mash-up full of retro charm. The majority of Mario fan games use the 16 bit Super Mario World visual style but there’s something to be said about the chunky blocky style of the original NES Super Mario Bros game. Super Mario Bros Lost Land is a wonderfully weird fan made Mario game that combines power-ups, enemies, sound FX and gameplay features from all across the Mario series while retaining the iconic 8-bit art style of the original NES Super Mario Bros game.
